Far East Spicy Tofu and Green Beans
We had this for dinner last night and it was so good! I forgot to take a picture of it when it was fresh, so I snapped one today when I had leftovers for lunch. Last night, the beans were vibrant green, so the presentation was much prettier. The leftovers tasted better though, as does most Chinese food the next day.
I bought some microwave popcorn for my kids and husband. It was the butter flavor and I read the ingredients out of curiosity.. I was shocked to find that it contained EGG and FISH! How gross is that? Fortunately, both of my children refuse to eat it now and my husband said it was gross. Just WHY is it necessary to use egg and fish in popcorn? I don't get it. Nasty.
I much prefer to make my own microwave popcorn. I just use normal dried corn, a paper bag and some olive oil spray. From now on, I'm sure my kids will prefer that as well.
Well then, two things: Which one has egg and fish? What is your "recipe" for microwave popcorn - I'd never imagined popcorn would pop in a microwave using a spray substitute.
ReplyDeleteI love tofu - that dish would be awesome!
I'm sorry for your popcorn fiasco- and glad your kids turned their noses up at it. If you think that's shocking, try reading the ingredient list on Beano someday- shocking! And totally inexplicable.
ReplyDeleteThat tofu sounds right up my alley. =)
thank you for your kind words to Cara.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that a lot and so did she
Teddy
That is the grossest thing I have ever heartd of. Why the heck would you put that junk in good popcorn. Which brand was it? I am so sorry. YUCK!! Even if I was an omni that sounds gross.
ReplyDeleteThe tofu and beans look amazingly filling and satisfying. Fish on popcorn? Ew. I'm much too lazy to make popcorn--but I hear that a sprinkling of nutritional yeast is the perfect topping.
ReplyDeleteI have a special bowl that allows me to pop regular popcorn in the microwave. But fish and eggs eeeewww!! I have to go read my ingredients now!
ReplyDeleteThe green beans and tofu look and sound just wonderful. And fish in popcorn is one of the grossest things I've heard in a long time. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteWhy? why does microwave popcorn contain egg & fish- bizarre.
ReplyDeleteYour popcorn idea sounds great. I make mine in the pot with some olive oil and yes, UV- it is especially delicious with nutritional yeast, liquid aminos & some hot pepper flakes.
I'm so sad to hear about those hog roasts in Iowa and yes, people are extremely disconnected from their food, especially in the US. We are a nation based on conspicuous consumption. Animals and food are just another outlet for us to be wasteful and unappreciative because we are the land of plenty and most have become so jaded, they give no thought to the food on their plate let alone the suffering from animal to slaughterhouse worker that comes with it.
And don't be so hard on yourself with dairy, at least you are aware and it will happen and you are surrounded by a supportive vegan blog community which I am so thrilled to have found this wonderful blog world!
Mmmm..your dinner looks awesome!! I love how thin the tofu is - I usually like it in smaller or thinner pieces.
ReplyDeleteEyew, that popcorn sounds atrocious. I haven't had microwaved pc in years and i'm glad of that! YIKES. Glad you read the label there... i know i probably wouldn't think there would be anything other than popcorn and some type of oil in there. Scary!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, your tofu dish is stunning. I love it, Melody!
hush up! fish & eggs in micro-popcorn?! just goes to show label reading is a must for EVERYTHING! I would have never suspected popcorn. Your tofu dish, on the other hand, looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteTofu and Green Beans are always a winning combination. Looks so tasty :) And that is just plain nasty about the popcorn. Ewwww!
ReplyDeleteoh dear! Why do I look at food blogs right before lunch?! That dish looks phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteThat tofu looks so good! I have started making popcorn the old fashioned way in a pot and top it with nutritional yeast. I never used to be too bothered about popcorn and really didn't like nutritional yeast, but together...WOW...they are yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteThat tofu looks so good! is a recipe from a book?
ReplyDeletepopcorn with fishh and ehh that is so yuck
This dish is fantastic. I just made it and the family loves it!
