I like the idea of 100 calorie snacks and a snack of mine (actually a meal because I am freaken SICK again) comes in under 100 calories. I used the dry fried lite tofu from my previous post and marinated it in 1 T of Newman's Own Sesame Ginger Dressing along with the mushrooms and 2 c of spinach. I topped the snack with 1/2 t black sesame seeds and siracha. For a total of 96 calories, 4 g fat, 9 g protein and 3 g fiber it is a nutritional powerhouse and will keep your blood sugar nice and stable so you can work out after work if you so desire.
I have a horrible sore throat, so fruit is what I've been craving... pear and mango have been what I've been eating... Hopefully, the vitamins and minerals in the fruits and veggies I've been eating will make me better...
Of course, both a pear and mango are also a delicious way to get a good snack in for 100 calories.
Don't be seduced by the marketing of corrupt companies.
Your 100 calorie snack looks SO much better. Yeah, it is laughable that anyone would think those snacks would tide someone over for more than a minute...
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! I hate being sick. Some of your soup might do the trick?
It's sad what some companies pass off as "food", isn't it? That tofu in your pic is making me hungry... oy...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what people fall for isn't it? They think "ooh 100 calories, this must be good!", but I checked the labels and they're filled with sugar, trans fats and salts. And honestly, they're just portions of junk food, that don't satisfy anyone's cravings and create environmental waste.
ReplyDeleteIf people would just pick up a fruit or some veggies, they wouldn't have to worry about it being more than 100 calories anyway. *sigh*
So true about those snacks. The things that are advertised as healthy these days - sheesh!
ReplyDeleteFeel better!
I always thought thouse "100 calorie" packs were kind of a joke -- who wants to eat seven crappy crackers, anyway?
ReplyDeleteRomina's right about the environmental waste, too -- whatta lotta extra plastic garbage! Sheesh.
that's pretty much the most enticing 100 calorie snack I've ever seen! Those junk-food packs are so ludricous, definitely - I always pass them in the store and wonder, well, first off who would pay a dollar for a 1/3 of a regular sized treat, and then why on earth anyone would eat 2 bites of chocolate instead of a whole fresh piece of fruit? madness!
ReplyDeleteI like your blog! I mentally add calories, too... I shouldn't but I do...
Sorry to hear you are still not feeling well. When I am sick, I like to drink EmergenC. It seems like, it helps me get better faster.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about the 100 calorie snack packs. Your meal looks and I'm sure tastes way better.
Sending healing vibes your way.
Thanks so much for the link to this blog. I will be visiting often!

FABULOUS! I love your version of the 100 calorie snack! I'm going to have to try this :-) I'm sorry to hear you've been sick, though... Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI HATE those 100 calorie packs! People think they are "healthy" because they are only 100 calories...sorry, but Oreos and Cheetos will never be healthy, regardless of the calories!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better soon...keep eating that fruit!
Courtney
You're so right; it's infuriating how companies prey on people w/ these faux healthy snacks. I'm constantly trying to get my friends and family to eat healthier foods and to fuel, rather than simply fill, their bodies. Congrats on making such a great 100 calorie snack that's healthy (and looks delicious!). Feel better soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your snack idea/recipe Melody. I've got to give it a try soon. Yum!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer to be sick. I hope you feel better soon.
Happy Valentines Day!
Hope you have started feeling better Melody!!
ReplyDeleteYour snack looks delicious... so much more nutritious too!
Haha, those snack packs always drove me nuts too! For 100 calories, you can have 1 cookie stuffed with chemicals or a big plateful of healthy veggies and whole foods. Easy choice!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for writing this! I get so infuriated at the 100-calorie packs, and the way people carry them around like some sort of insurance against hunger- not only are they unhealthy and pumped full of crap, but there is no way they would fill me up for even a minute. I'd choose your food any day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with other noter's. Your snack looks much more yummier and healthy too! Have you ever done much with roasting garbanzo beans in the oven with spices? They are such a good snack, that I want to make some more again.

It seems every magazine I pick up has a page filled with 100 calorie snacks. Most of the time you'd be better off with a 200 calorie snack that's healthier for you.
ReplyDeleteugh, those infamous 100-calorie snack packs are so incredibly unhealthy and unnatural, I laugh every time I see them advertised and/or people eating them. blech! your food is INFINITELY better-looking, and I'm sure better-tasting (I wish I COULD taste it, haha)!!
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Mel!! Hang in there and get well soon!!
Hi sweetie, I am sorry your sick, but hope you are on the mend. Your food looks so good. I think your 100 cal pack out does nabisco by a million to one. What program do you use to get your nutrition facts. DH has been looking for one. Talk to you soon! :o)
ReplyDeleteHi - I hope your throat is feeling better. Your 100 calorie snack is definitely real food (not processed) and so much better than the packaged stuff. I've been enjoying seeing what you've been eating lately because, although you're dieting, your meals look anything but deprived. Congrats on your weight loss -- that's terrific!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping things go back to normal in my house soon so I can get back to cooking the way I like (at least for breakfast/lunches).
Have you heard anything on your job?
Edie
hope you feel better too!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. A few nuts are my 100 calorie snack. It really is sad that many people buy these, thinking they are getting something healthy.
ReplyDeletei hope that by now you feel better!!
