Lightlife review and a Raw experiment..

Another Lightlife review... These are the Smart Strips, chicken flavored. I stir fried them with veggies and asian spices and served them with a side of basmati rice. Mixed reviews on these... which comes as no surprise to me! I have used them before.. with the same results. My oldest son and I can't even swallow one while my youngest son and X LOVED them... which makes sense because I was never a meat loving vegan or vegetarian nor is my oldest son. We both have always been grossed out by meaty thing and we don't even like seitan... but my X husband and youngest son really LOVE meat.. and crave it and these strips satisfy their cravings... which is awesome! So.... if you have someone who is missing meat, these strips are for you!
Pretty gross, huh? This is a Raw experiment... I am soaking steel cut oats, blueberries, cashews, cinnamon and stevia for 18 hours.... then tomorrow morning I will blend in my food processor (if I can stomach it early before work)... Unfortunately I have NO golden flax meal in the house.. I intended on putting that in there to create a raw mock rice pudding type thing... I am aware that many people don't consider steel cut oats or "raw" oats, "RAW", but I am not going that far... I've decided that my RAW challenge will be a HIGH RAW... I will still eat nutritional yeast, miso, raw nuts that I purchase from the health food store, vinegars, olives and pickles.... otherwise I don't think I could do it... so, this is my first experiment... I officially start July 1st... but want to spend the next month or so moving in the direction of raw foods.

Sunday is my last day here at the beach.... Wow... time flies! I am thrilled that my kids will be with me again.... and I'll only be 5 miles away from the beach....

  1. Hmmm...you will have to let us know how your "raw experiment" with the oats turns out! It does look pretty gross, but hey, lots of things do before they are prepared and ready to be eaten, right?!

Good luck with your move! I hope it all goes well!

  2. I don't think I could ever go 100% raw, but I think eating as many raw fruits and veggies as possible is optimal for everyone. Good luck with that experiment with the oats!! Can't wait to hear about it.

  3. Raw oat pudding, eh? Do report back with the results of the experiment!! I'm 75% raw, and it works fabulously for me - good luck with YOUR raw journey, when you begin!

    GORGEOUS beach scene - wow!

  4. Do the oats eventually soften up after all that soaking? Sounds like a fun experiment!

  7. I'm trying to lean more to raw, but there is no way I could go 100% raw (I think I'd go just a little bit nutty/paranoidish about it, and way too preachy). I love reading about your raw recipes/tests.
And I'm so happy you'll be with your kids & have the beach so close!

  8. I know what you mean about mock meat products... I like seitan okay, but if it's in a cutlet form (or anything in a cutlet form), it weirds me out. Maybe I just wasn't raised on strips of meat in my food! Anyway, I also like your version of a raw diet, that seems MUCH more enjoyable than the strict kind.

  9. I'm with you on the Lightlife chicken strips - they remind me of dried up, gummy caulk, blech!

Anyway, the beach photo is gorgeous, I'm envious that you'll be so close to the beach! Good for you!

  10. I'm totally with your on the fake meats. The "meaty" texture is too much for me!

  11. I like those strips, although I do think they are a bit salty.

How lucky you are to be living so close to the beach!

  13. I agree with the High Raw outlook. When I do monthly raw food detox days, I still use nutri yeast, miso, and raw oats. Good luck!

And I love those Light Life strips. But I love fake meat products, so...

  14. It's funny--I love those strips. I think they're one of LL's better products.

The beach shot is pretty, but I'm so happy for you that you'll be closer to your kidlets.

  15. Good luck with the move!!

My husband loves that lightlife smart strips, probably uz he misses meat as well (he's still an omnivore). I don't mind the chicken ones, but can't stand the steak flavor. Ick.

  16. I love those strips but since getting a kazillion pounds of soy curls I haven't bought them in a while.

Good luck with your raw experiment. I can't wait to hear all about it. I don't think I would ever want to eat an all raw diet but I'm definitely interested in eating more raw food.
