Weigh In and Raw News...

Sooooo.... I'm sure you all can tell from the picture that the salad is not raw! It is mostly raw, but has delicious roasted tempeh. Teriyaki tempeh to be exact. (this is actually an old pic.. I haven't picked up my camera in a week or so..)..

I am not doing the super high raw challenge anymore. I did 30 days and had enough. Honestly, it was never easy for me. I never felt great. It was a struggle. My weigh in was very disappointing at only 5 lbs for the month. I understand why though, given the amount of nuts and dried fruits I was eating. Also, I ended up having a lupus flare this last week and that just made me realize that it was NOT helping me. (I am in NO way blaming the raw diet for the flare, just saying that my body didn't seem that much different eating that way..).

Soooo.. I am modifying to aim for 70-75% raw, staying away from wheat (although allowing myself sprouted bread once a day if I want it).. It think this will be sooo much easier. I love my green smoothies and am going to have one sweet smoothie and one savory smoothie a day.

I already feel much more satisfied.

I'm thrilled I did the 30 days... but if I went another the same way I think I would just be totally miserable and angry and obsessive... which is NOT why I was doing this!

Soooo.... there it is.

I am thrilled I am doing the 70-75% raw.... and I can't wait to see how I feel a month from now. I am doing this for the next 100 days.

  1. Sorry your challenge didn't go so well! 5 pounds is great - I have heard that for sustainable loss, 1 lb. a week is excellent!

  2. You've done FABULOUSLY, Mel - be proud!! I follow a high-raw vegan diet (75-80%), which is perfect for me - that way, I still enjoy cooked foods about 20% of the time (a good balance for my body).

  4. honestly, I'm so glad you're scaling back the raw diet! It sounded so so hard for you, and listening to your body is utmost, and also teriyaki tempeh is way too good to not eat! And as usual, I can't wait to see what you make next. ;D

  5. Good call, Mel! No one wants to be feeling unsatisfied and tired all of the time. The worst "diets" are ones that are so restrictive, you feel like you are missing out! Then you end up obsessing about food all of the time. :) Congratulations on those five pounds gone!

  9. I'm sorry about the flare! It's too bad the raw challenge was so miserable. I am very very glad that you are listening so well to your body and doing what you are comfortable with. No diet is worth being that miserable over. Moderation in all things ((((((Mel))))

  10. Wow, 30 days is fantastic! I don't know if I could do it.... All of your food always looks so tasty though, I could definitely do it if you were prepping for me! Congrats on the weight loss too :)

  11. I'm a big fan of HRAV (High Raw, All Vegan) and it's great for me. I have had times when I'm 100% Raw, but I'm loving the flexibility of HRAV and I feel fantastic :)

I love that you're listening to your body, too.

Too many nuts and dried fruit was probably the culprit. Be sure to drink lots of green smoothies and/or juice if you can... they make all the difference in the world to me :)

    Cheers,
    Kristen

  13. You've done a great job and losing 5 pounds in a month is pretty good. I was 100% raw for about 6 months and have been high raw vegan since. I honestly don't feel as good - the first 30 days of 100% raw was tough because of detox but then I felt unbelievable. I feel great now but cooked food does upset my balance. However, it's a matter of having lifestyle flexibility for me so it suits and I've learned not to beat myself up about it!

Good on you for choosing to be 70% raw! You will still be doing wonderful things for your health :)

  14. You did it! Hey--5 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. You are probably so amazingly detoxified. Here's to enjoying some cooked food now.

Sorry about the lupus flare...my sister has lupus, so I know it's not fun.

  15. I don't think I would do well on a full raw diet. I think your aim of 70-75% is more realistic. Congrats on the 5 lb loss!

  16. Yea! You made it through. You have way more balls than me. I doubt I'd make it a week without tofu.

  17. 70% sounds like a much better way of eating for you. The high percentage of nuts has always made me hesitant to be high raw.

  18. You're so gifted in so many ways! I haven't looked at your blog in awhile, but I can see that your creativity is still abounding!

  20. good for you for trying and being honest about what worked and didn't work. You should be proud of yourself! I hope to do raw one meal a week and that's a challenge! Onward!

  21. I am super impressed that you made it through 30 days of 100% raw!! I think adjusting your raw intake to make yourself feel better sounds like the best thing to do. That tempeh looks delicious.... definitely worth adding back into your diet!

  22. I am proud of you that you finally found your balance. Frankly speaking it was terrible to read your previous posts about how down you fell and hair loss? girl, I am glad you went back to normal. Love the crunchy warm tempeh you have over there :-)

  23. 30 days and 5 pounds is a pretty good feat! I tried for 30 raw days last summer, and only made it about a week- you are a stronger woman than me, that's for sure!
